Hey guys!!! I have another delicious recipe to share with you using my favorite ingredient Hunt’s® tomatoes! I always keep Hunt’s® tomatoes on hand because they are delicious and can help me get in and out of the kitchen in a snap.  I also love Hunt’s® tomatoes because, instead of using chemicals to peel their tomatoes, Hunt’s® peels their tomatoes using FlashSteam, which uses steam from simple hot water.  Some companies peel their tomatoes using chemicals like *lye, which is generally recognized as safe by the FDA and has no adverse effects on the healthfulness of tomatoes but something I’d like to avoid if I can!  So when I’m at the store I always look for the FlashSteam logo, pictured below, to ensure I’m getting tomatoes peeled with simple hot water, like those from Hunt’s!

Hunt's Diced

The weather is finally getting a little warmer around here and that means before we know it it will be time for BBQs, potlucks and more!  Today I am going to share with you a super easy side dish that is super simple to prepare and full of flavor!  It is a real crowd pleaser!

Calico Beans are the perfect side dish to any cook out, pot luck or dinner at home and Hunt’s® Diced tomatoes give them a fresh flavor!

Calico Beans are baked beans tastier, richer cousin and is a well received change when your going to your 1000th cookout with the same old baked beans.

First you fry up some crumbled bacon and a little diced onion.  Then in the same skillet brown up a pound of lean ground beef.

Ground Beef

Next in goes a can of pork and beans, a can of kidney beans, a can of lima or butter beans (we call them butter beans down here) and then your trusty can of Hunt’s® Diced Tomatoes.

Add in tomatoes!

Next for a little seasoning you want to put in some salt and pepper, then Worcestershire and A LOT of brown sugar!  Don’t be scared, that much is what gives the beans their flavor and besides you aren’t eating the whole pan yourself (well maybe lol)

Add brown sugar

Now just mix all that together and pop it into a 400 degree oven covered for an hour or until it has thickened.

You can also make this in the slow cooker or on the stove.  You can mix and match the beans a little, spice them up with some green chiles or jalapenos, yum!!

These are such a welcome change from the same old same old beans and are sure to be the hit of any get together!

This will also make a fabulous meal with a side of cornbread!

So next time you are at the store look for Hunt’s® Tomatoes with the FlashSteam logo and make some fabulous dishes!!!
