Sloppy Joes

Sharing is caring!

Looking to use up some ground beef this week I tried to rack my brain for a recipe we hadn’t had in awhile.  When I was younger we used to eat Manwiches often and I loved them and everyone seemed to enjoy them.  Though nothing is quicker that popping open a lid I decided I would try to make them from scratch.  I had all of the ingredients on hand so in hindsight it was cheaper too than using the canned version.  A real favorite of the family is “Spoonburgers” but we’ve had them a lot lately hence the switch up to the sloppy joes, but I promise you will be seeing a recipe for my family’s “Spoonburgers” soon!

    • 3 pounds Ground Beef

    • 1 whole Medium Onion, Diced

    • 1 whole Large Green Bell Pepper, Diced

    • 1 whole Large Red Bell Pepper, Diced

    • 1 cloves Garlic, Minced

    • 2 cups Ketchup

    • 4 Tablespoons Brown Sugar

    • 3 teaspoons Chili Powder

    • 2 Tablespoons Mustard

    • ½-2 teaspoon Hot Sauce

    • 3 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

    • 2 Tablespoons BBQ sauce

    • ¼ cup oatmeal

Cook up onion and peppers in large skillet till translucent.

Add meat to onion mixture and brown up.

Drain off grease.

Add in garlic, ketchup, water, sugar, chili powder, mustard, hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce, BBQ sauce and oatmeal.

Stir and cook till thickened.

Serve on fluffy white hamburger buns or even over rice or a baked potato.
