It’s hot outside here at Michelle Lea Designs and time for a few indoor fun crafts to make with the little girly girl in my house. Two things that my daughter loves… washi tape and jewelry! This cute little craft is so easy to make and adorable.
Today I’m sharing Wooden Washi Tape Bracelets!!!  The easiest craft EVER!
Sooo… what do you need for this awesome and frugal craft?
Supplies:
1. Wooden craft sticks, a.k.a thick popsicle sticks/tongue depressors. You can find these at the craft store or Wal-Mart
2. Your stove, a saucepan, and water
3. Mason Jars or any glass jar to cool and form your bracelet
4. Tape or any embellishments to decorate your bracelet (yarn, stickers, duct tape… so many possibilities)
The How To:
1. Fill a saucepan with water, about half way full. Bring water to a rolling boil.
2. Place your wooden sticks in the boiling water. You will probably break a few sticks, so make sure you have extras in there.
3. Boil for 45 minutes to an hour
4. Assemble your Mason Jars and glasses on your counter.
5.Start pulling out sticks one by one and shaping them into a curved bracelet. Do this slowly. I started at one end and slowly curved the stick until I could place it into the jar. Try to start bending as quickly as you can once they are out of the water. They are very hot, so be careful.
Note: I put my mason jars in the oven on about 300 degrees for maybe 10 minutes to help them dry quicker. Make sure that your drying containers are oven safe, if you are going this route. I will say that overnight is the best method. The bracelets were much better the day after.
6. Once you have all of your bracelets in the jars… set them to the side to dry. You should let them dry and cure overnight.
7. Once dry (you won’t have to pull hard to get them out of the jar if they are fully dry and cured) take the bracelets out of the jar and you will end up with little beauties like this:
8. At this point, you are ready to decorate. You could even stain the bracelets for added depth. For my Washi tape versions, I just tore off the tape and wrapped it around the edges of the bracelet.  For some I angled the tape and others I left it straight… the design possibilities are endless.
So simple for any age child to make and you could use any kind of tape, marker or bling to decorate.
the back… washi tape is so forgiving if you mess up your layout and lays so nicely on the backside of the bracelet. you could cover the back with something if you wanted a completely finished look.
Have a wonderful week and enjoy the long summer days and stop by to say hello at Michelle Lea Designs soon!

  1. I love this project. While it might be a bit tricky shaping the sticks, they can be done in advance for very little money. I think it would be a great craft for a girl scout troop. And the best part is the decorating with wonderful washi tape isn’t messy:)

  2. I tried a similar thing about 2 years ago and couldn’t stop my sticks from breaking – but I just soaked them not boiled them. I have wanted to give it a do over ever since. (I hate to be beaten by a crafting fail!) I am trying this again with your helpful suggestions – thank you so much!
Loving the washi tape btw – what a great addition.
